The story of SE7EN
It’s happen in a week, was about two detectives and a killer. Detective Somerset, who will retire
next week. And detective Mills, he was just transferred to this city and was rich with promise of
this city. The killer, John, who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world's ignorance of the
Seven Deadly Sins. So, he want to do a big work to make people refresh the seven deadly sins by
kill seven person who had committed the seven deadly sins.
The source of SE7EN
God created the world in seven days; Satan is a great red dragon, who have seven heads and
seven crowns upon his heads. There is seven angles who fallen from heaven and turn into devil
called satan.
All the Catholic believe that there is seven deadly sins: Pride, Greed, Lust , Wrath, Gluttony ,
Envy and Slot.
pride
In almost every list, pride (Latin, superbia) is considered the original and most serious of the
seven deadly sins, and the source of the others. It is identified as a desire to be more important
or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of
self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Dante's definition was "love of
self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor."
This is picture of Lucifer. He is symbol of pride. It said that he is the greatest angel in heaven. But
he doesn’t submit to Jesus. At last, he became Satan
Greed
Greed (Latin, avaritia ) is like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the
church) is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power.
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that greed was "a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as
man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things."
This is picture of mammon. He is symbol of greed. He is one of satan’s sons
Lust
Lust (carnal "luxuria") is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. In
Dante's Purgatorio, the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts
and feelings. In Dante's Inferno, unforgiven souls of the sin of lust are blown about in restless
hurricane-like winds symbolic of their own lack of self control to their lustful passions in earthly
life.
This is picture of Asmodeus. It ‘s said that she’s a woman. But I don’t think so. She is symbol of
lust.
Wrath
Wrath (Latin, ira), also known as "rage", may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings
of hatred and anger. Wrath, in its purest form, presents with self-destructiveness, violence, and
hate that may provoke feuds that can go on for centuries. Wrath may persist long after the
person who did another a grievous wrong is dead. Feelings of anger can manifest in different
ways, including impatience, revenge, and vigilantism. Dante described vengeance as "love of
justice perverted to revenge and spite".
This is picture of Samael. He is symbol of wrath. In holy bible, they called him is prince of the
devils. He plant the tree of knowledge in the garden of eden.
Gluttony
Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony (Latin, gula) is the
over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian
religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food for its withholding from
the needy.[13]
Depending on the culture, it can be seen as either a vice or a sign of status. Where food is
relatively scarce, being able to eat well might be something to take pride in. But in an area where
food is routinely plentiful, it may be considered a sign of self-control to resist the temptation to
over-indulge.
This is picture of Beelzebub. He is symbol of gluttony. In holy bible, they called him vampire lord.
Beelzebub means fly king.
Envy
Like greed, Envy (Latin, invidia) may be characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however,
for two main reasons:
First, greed is largely associated with material goods, where as envy may apply more generally.
Second, those who commit the sin of envy not only resent that another person has something
they perceive themselves as lacking, but also wish the other person to be deprived of it. Dante
defined this as "a desire to deprive other men of theirs."
This is picture of Leviathan. It is symbol of envy. It is a sea-dragon. I can’t understand why it is H
symbol of envy.
Sloth
The focus came to be on the consequences of acedia rather than the cause, and so, by the 17th
century, the exact deadly sin referred to was believed to be the failure to utilize one's talents and
in Dante's time there were signs of this change; in his Purgatorio he had portrayed the
penance for acedia as running continuously at top speed
This is picture of Belphegor. He help people invent something and then people will became lazy.
Just like we use computer writring but use pen no more.
My Opinion
I think we cannot change the world, we cannot change the other’s mind, maybe we are small and
weak in front of God, but we still work hard in pursuit of a life what we want, but just keep in you
mind that there is seven deadly sins, you cannot committed. Because one cannot commit the
seven sins with impunity. In China we say that 善有善报 恶有恶报。 I think everyone should
have a kind heart. It can’t change our social. But it’s good for our self. Your kind and your soul will
find some comfort.
