White, the boss of ABC Company, is talking with Penny, the manager of

this company, about how to help Henan.)

W=Mr. White P=Penny

W: I guess you’ve seen the news. There was a flood in Henan province.

People are suffering terribly.

P: Yes, I saw the news. Many houses and cars were flooded.

W: We need to do something to help people there.

P: Yes. We can donate some money.

W: Definitely. What else can we do?

P: They must have run out of some basic necessities, such as food and

water. So we can send them some food and water.

W: Good idea. Shall we send aid through a charity or send it directly

ourselves?

P: It’s better to send aid directly ourselves. That way people there

can get the food and water more quickly.

W: Yeah. You’re right.

P: We can also organize a group of volunteers to go to Henan to help.

W: That’s a great idea. Go and put the plan into action! Send the money,

food and volunteers as soon as possible.

P: Sure. As soon as disasters struck, help came from all sides. I believe

they will get through this difficult time soon.

W: Definitely.

P: I went to Guizhou to take part in a volunteer program.

T: What kind of volunteer program?

P: A hospital sent doctors to Guizhou to treat patients free of charge,

and I went there as a volunteer to help them.

T: What exactly did you do there?.

P: I ran errands for the doctors, took care of patients, did some

cleaning, and maintained order.

T: That must have been very tiring.

P: No. I must say I really enjoyed myself while I was there. I made a

few like-minded friends. And I felt very happy to see the patients recover

one by one. So I decided to do more to help others in the future.

T: Do you often take part in volunteer activities?

P: Yes. I volunteer as much as I can. Being able to help people makes

my life worthwhile.

T: Great. I think I should also participate in volunteer activities.

P: That’s a good plan. I’m sure you’ll feel fulfilled after helping

others.
