Which place is better to purchase a book, bookstore or internet?

Reading all kinds of books has been a part of children's and adults’ life for the past few

decades. And it has become one of the most basic questions asked by readers who are

willing to learn more and more useful things: between the bookstore and the internet,

which one should be our first priority? Although the two different points of view have some

similarities, there are many differences in the cost, the various types of books and the

underlying causes of their price distinctions.

It is significant that a considerable difference exists in the cost between buying books in

the bookstore and buying them on the internet. With the development of technology and

the significant price cut, purchasing online has become a more and more popular activity

among both teenagers and adults. To be more specific, the marked price of a book sold

online is nearly 40 percent cheaper than the one in a store. As a result, people are more

likely to read online instead of buying a real book in hand.

Another main reason causing the shift of book lovers’ purchasing books in the store to

online is that the internet provides countless books to the public within easy reach. On the

contrary, the amount of books the store could have is limited, causing the decrease of their

competitiveness. For instance, the biggest bookstore in the U.S., Barnes & Noble Booksellers,

is nearly closed due to their customers being unsatisfied with the selection of books. And

that’s just an example of hundreds of “dying” bookstores.

On the contrary, it shouldn’t be neglected that the reason why some of the books and

articles are extremely cheap is partly because some of the publishers might use illegal

strategies like pirating in getting them published online. However, it is the authentic

manufacturing process that makes the books sold in the bookstore pricey. More importantly,

selling books in the bookstore is an appropriate way to protect the rights of the writers and

to maintain legal practices.

In conclusion, there are both advantages and disadvantages on each side. However, to my

point of view, the most crucial thing is to keep a balance on buying books online or in the
