13、 Do you want to live a happier, less stressful(有压力的) life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That’s how
millions of people start their day at Laughter(笑声) Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a
good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria.“Young children laugh about
300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day,” says Dr. Kataria. “Everyone is naturally good at laughing
— it’s the common language. We want people to feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter
Clubs in India and over 1,300 in the world.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the
UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health
against illness by about 40%.
So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite
nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn’t interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was
worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at
each other. However, our bodies can’t tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce
the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just
couldn’t stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress,
then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results.

Why are you study habits different from those of your friends? Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while
more slowly in others? One reason you may not know is that people have different types. Scientists say there are three
different learning types: Visual(视觉型),Auditory(听觉型),and Kinesthetic (动觉型)。
Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表),and
videos, you are probably a visual learner. You’re not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind.
You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.
Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably
an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it’s the easiest way for you to learn .
Sometimes you may find that taking notes tops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you
remember or borrow your friend’s notes to copy.
Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a
kinesthetic learner. Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it. Of course,
B.After ten hours.
D.After ten days.
you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.
Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.

15、Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make
food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their
food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find
that there are so many plants around us.
If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and
non-flowering plants.
Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three
or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the
banana fruit.
Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores (胚芽). Spores are very small. Some spores
are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these
spores are all on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants.

A.plants are important for life
B.plants cannot grow without air
C.there are many plants in the world

16、Father’s Day has a very short history. It was started because there was a Mother’s Day. And just because some
Americans thought that if we had a Mother’s Day, we should also have a Father’s Day. Father’s Day has become
important in North America. And shopkeepers found it was a good way to get people to buy presents for their fathers,
presents from their shops.
By the way, very few countries have a Father’s Day, though some have Children’s Day, or a special day for boys and
another for girls. More and more countries are having Mother’s Day, so maybe Father‘s Day will also become popular
before too long. Now, what do people in North America do on Father’s Day? The newspapers, radios, and TV tell
children what they should do-buy a Father’s Day present for your father. They even tell a wife to buy a Father’s Day
present-not for her father but for her husband, even if he is not yet a father. And they tell grandchildren to buy a
Father’s Day present for their grandfathers.

Being busy can become a way of life. Our lives are always filled with emails and text messages. They make us feel
17、wanted and important, but in a tiring and empty way. Being busy has a dangerous allure(诱惑). If you are busy all
the time, it’s hard to sit quietly with your thoughts or to really feel what you’re feeling. Whynot let everything become
a choice — how we spend time, who we reply to and how much or little we write?
Many of us are busy becauseour self-worth goes up when people make demandson our time. Whydon’t we free
(需求)ourselves from needing, or even wanting? Why don’t we make the best use of the time and space to be productive in a
way that it best serves us? That may be consciously(主动地)keeping ourselves not busy. In fact many great
discoverieswere made by people who built white space into their day.
Imagine asking “How are you?” to one of the most successful people you know like Warren Buffet. I’ve never heard
anyone at that level answer “busy” though most people believe they are.
What are they doing differently?
First, they aim to project an image that things are under control. Second, they actually have things under
control. They’ve had excellent staff, implementedthoughtful processes and they spend time only on critical tasks
(实施)that require their attention. They make high-level strategic decisions with a large effect.
It’s time to end the glory of being busy and spend time setting up processes that make sense, rather than simply working
more hours. To do this, you need to change yourway of thinking. It’s cool to say you’re busy, but it’s better to be busy
helping someone carry a stroller up the subway stairs or busy finishing a book.
How to free us from the trendof being busy? Start with small steps. For one day, be mindful of every daily
activity. Consider each thing a choice and decide proactively(预先)if it’s necessary or simply a habit you can get rid
of or do in half the time. Next, stop saying how busy you are. Then, figure out what you want to achieve with your day
and begin doing it. Put your time and energy where you want it to be.
1.What are many of us busy doing every day?
A.Sitting quietly and think actively.
B.Meeting people’s demands on our time.
C.Making great discoveries.
D.Takinghigh-level decisions.
2.Why don’t successful people like Warren Buffet answer “busy”?
A.Because they value working abilities and attitude.
B.Because they focus on attracting excellent workers.
C.Because they pay more attention to learning management.
D.Because they think well and spend more time on critical tasks.
3.The writer probably agrees that we should ______.
A.stop considering each thing a choice
B.work more hours to achieve our goals
C.answer emails and messages as soon as possible
D.be mindful where we want our time and energy to be
4.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To advise us to be freedfrom the trend of being busy.
B.To warn us about the danger of leading a busy life.
C.To show us ways to feel good about being busy.
D.To tell us how to fit into the busy modern life.

18、What is the hottest English word of 2014? It’s “selfie”, according to Oxford dictionaries. Selfie is a photo that one
takes of oneself, according to the Oxford online dictionary. People usually take selfies with a smartphone(智能手机) and
send them to a social media website.
The word was first used in 2004. In the past 12 months, its frequency (出现频率) in the English language has increased
by 17,000 percent, said Oxford dictionaries. Now, almost everybody knows it.
“Almost every day, I take a photo of myself at school, and save it in my Qzone (QQ空间),” said Huang Xu, 13, from
Hunan. These photos record her happy and sad moments.
Pop stars also take a lot of selfies. Li Chunping, 14, from Harbin, is a big fan of Yang Mi. “She has used many selfies to
tell us what’s going on in her personal life,” said Li.
What makes people love selfies? Some people say it’s narcissism (自恋). “The rise of the selfie is a perfect symbol for our
narcissistic culture. We’re crying out: Look at me!” said US psychiatrist(精神科医生) Carole Lieberman.
Young people are using selfies to make friends online, Jonathan Freedland wrote in The Guardian. “The usual purpose
of taking a selfie is to share online. They express a human need to connect with others,” wrote Freedland.
Huang Xu agrees with that. “During summer vacation, my classmates and I shared many selfies online. Hair or clothes
were not our interests. Through these photos, we got to know each other’s holidays and feelings,” said Huang Xu.

知足 the key(关键)A long time ago, in a rich and beautiful country, there lived an unhappy king. He slept badly and didn't feel like
eating. He often cried for no reason. This made the queen and his people worried. So they called a doctor to examine
him.But he found nothing wrong with his body.He said what the king needed was the shirt of a happy person to
wear.That would make him happy.
The prime minister was called to the palace. But when they explained the king's situation to him, he said,"Although I have a lot of power, it doesn't make me happy. I'm always worried about losing my power."

worried about losing money. Someone tries to steal my money. Next, the palace singer was called to say, "I'm

heart. ""Can you give your shirt to me, I need it, "said the general."What shirt? I don' t have any
shirts."answered the man.

19、My Thoughts about Happiness
Power, wealth, and fame can't always make people happy. For example, the rich people were unhappy, because they
are afraid of losing money, while the poor people was truly happy because he was satisfied with what he could have.
What can always make me happy?Happiness is always in my heart and is easy to find if I pay more attention to
what I have. For instance, enjoying the beautiful sunshine after a cloudy day, getting a glass of water from mother when
I am studying, getting help from my friends when I am in trouble and so on. These are the moments when I am happy.
All in all, don't think about what you can't have. Contentment is the key to happiness.
